About River City:
Award-winning jazz pianist, composer and accordionist Ben Rosenblum has been described as “mature beyond his years,” (Jon Neudorf, Sea of Tranquility), and as an “impressive talent” (C. Michael Bailey, All About Jazz), who “caresses [the music] with the reverence it merits” (Bob Doerschuk, Downbeat Magazine). River City is Ben's second trio album as a leader, and features two of Ben's long-time collaborators and contemporaries, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass and Ben Zweig on drums. The album consists of three original compositions and six tracks from the jazz canon, selections chosen from the group's repertoire after years of touring together.
Rosenblum's sophomore album has been called “well-realized” and “richly romantic” by JAZZIZ Magazine, who featured the album's title track in their Fall 2018 sampler CD. The album has been praised by Jazz Weekly, who comment on Rosenblum's "strong, soulful touch," as well as by Chris Spector from the Midwest Record, who writes that "this set will take you to the places you really want to go." Michael Ferber from Michael's Jazz Blog observes, "that album shows how a piano trio should sound."
Material from River City was premiered in Japan in May of 2018 as part of an extended tour. In addition to touring Japan, the trio has recently finished tours in Canada, the Midwest, the West Coast and the Northeast. Rosenblum continued with tours in the United States and Canada with his trio in Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 to celebrate the album's release, including dates at Ravinia's Bennett Gordon Hall (in Chicago), The Soper Reese Theatre (California), San Luis Obispo Jazz Society (California) and a special performance at the University of Tampa (Florida).
