Photos from Japan tour!

Hey everyone!

I just returned from Japan a week ago, and I'm still overwhelmed by how incredible our trip was. Visiting Japan has always been a dream for me, but to do so with my trio and perform in eight cities all over the country was nothing short of magical. I experienced some of the most amazing food and hospitality of my life in this twelve day journey, and I had the pleasure of meeting a multitude of fantastic musicians and music lovers, all of whom I hope to see again whenever we next have the opportunity to perform in Japan.

I wanted to share some pictures from the trip so that all of you could share a part of this experience with me. Below are some pictures that I took along the way, as well as some great photos taken by Kazuo Goshima (first one), Shin Yamazaki (fourth and sixth) and Mitsuru Mendenhall. These photos feature my wonderful bandmates Kanoa Mendenhall (bass) and Ben Zweig (drums), as well as our extraordinary special guest in Yokohama, Watanabe Yuko-sensei (koto), and a host of musicians who sat in with us at Koji Matsuura's awesome jazz club in Sapporo, D-Bop (third photo). A huge thanks to all of the venues that hosted us and all of the people that made this trip possible. We hope to be back very soon!

Award-winning New York City jazz pianist and accordionist Ben Rosenblum has been described as “mature beyond his years,” (Sea of Tranquility), an “impressive talent” (All About Jazz), who “caresses [the music] with the reverence it merits” (Downbeat Magazine). Since the release of his debut trio album, Instead (4 stars, Downbeat), Rosenblum has toured extensively with his trio and sextet throughout the United States, including multiple trips to the Northeast, Midwest, South and West Coast, and internationally in Canada, Europe and Japan. He was a featured soloist at Carnegie Hall's Stern-Perelman Auditorium (with Reona Ito's New York Harmonic Band) and has appeared at prestigious venues throughout the world, including at the Appel Room at Lincoln Center, Kuumbwa Jazz Center, Ravinia, Himawari-No-Sato Concert Hall in Yokohama, Bird's Eye in Basel and the Library of Congress. Rosenblum's second trio album in 2018, River City, was called “richly romantic” and “well-realized” by JAZZIZ Magazine, which featured the title track as part of their Best of Fall 2018 CD. Today is the day that I will do something meaningful in my life. This is the mindset that I have every day. It does not really matter to me how my day turns out, I just try to make the most out of it. I mean, just think about it, we can die at any moment. Let me ask you guys this; can you confidently say that you have no regrets if you die today? It is a really tough question to answer.
